Step 1: report the loss

  • Report the loss or theft to the local police and to the Swiss representation responsible for your place of stay. In Vietnam all consular matters are handled by the Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City.
  • Keep the police report (declaration of loss). The representation needs it to prepare a new identity document such as a temporary passport; some countries also require it to leave their territory; it is useful for insurance claims.
  • A passport or identity card reported lost to a representation is entered in a Federal Office of Police (fedpol) file.
